Are you a new user or maybe you bought one of our books? LearnToMod has updated a few times since our books were published.
Here's an overview of how to get started and where to find the badges ...
> Or watch our video guide series.
Connecting to our Minecraft Server:
Users can now connect to our Minecraft server by means of the new Server Instances Page which has replaced the Minecraft Connect Badge and the old ip play.learntomod.com. To use our Minecraft server, connect using the following process:
Click the green square on your LearnToMod Homepage. Then watch the tutorial video. After pressing 'Start Server' button on the badge, and receiving your temporary ip address, open your Minecraft launcher. Right now, we recommend using version 1.9.2 Here's how to change your Minecraft profile to a new version: https://forum.learntomod.com/t/minecraft-1-9-2-will-work-with-new-ltm-servers/3054. Note that any newer version or The Latest Version are Not currently compatible.
When connecting, don't forget to select multiplayer, then Direct Connect. Then enter the temporary ip address assigned to you. After 10 min of inactivity you'll need to press the Start Server button again. When you're transferred to your Minecraft world, you can start loading mods into your mod chest.
If you don't have Minecraft, that's fine. You can unlock most badges using the simulator. Just ignore any messages telling you to connect.
Note: If you choose to use our Minecraft server, you will need a vanilla Minecraft launcher (for Desktops or Laptops) from minecraft.net.
About the Badge Tutorials
At the top of the page is a navigation bar, click on Learn. This will direct you to the badge index page.
All new LTM users should complete the badges in the "Skills And Drills" category - start there.
Note: on the main badge index page, you'll see two "Skills and Drills" icons. Both contain the same badges, but you have option of testing your badge mods in the new Vox-L engine or testing them in the "Skills and Drills: Old Interface".
(If using the old interface .... then scroll to the bottom of the badge instructions and press the skip simulator button after completing each badge. Then test in Minecraft.)
Clicking on the "Skills And Drills" Wrench and Pencil icon will take you the index page for the category -- there will be subcategories (grey tabs in the middle of the page). Complete the badges in the "Getting Started"' section first then move onto the "Learning to Program" badges.
The Getting Started badges will show you how to write and run your first mod. The Vox-L simulator should load automatically - if doesn't then simply refresh the badge page. If that doesn't work, try updating your browser, switching to a different browser or downloading it from the Artifacts shop.
To get to the first badge in the "Learning to Program" section click on "Functions" then "Saying Hello." You can skip ahead to the next badge, if you need to, though they're meant to be completed in the order in which they're presented.
The Zoo, Magic Wands, Sidekick and JS Mini Game badges can be tackled after the Skills and Drills badges.
About the Mods in the Book: To view the most uptodate version of the mod, click "What's Hot" in the middle of the LearnToMod dashboard, then scroll down to mods, and into the search bar, type the name of the mod.
Feeling adventurous? Quests are a way to cut your teeth on advanced-level badges and are designed to introduce different parts of the LearnToMod website like the Schematics Editor. Just click the wheel icon in the upper left corner of the website to get started. Completed Quests earn you digital diamonds and points which can be used to buy awesome Vox-L artifacts from our artifacts shop. Note: Some of the more expensive artifacts are still in development.
